CA Bakehouse

CA Bakehouse is a family-owned Asian bakery in San Jose and they needed a brand identity. Their first shop – Century Bakery – was closing after 15+ years, and re-opening as a modern bakery with a younger target in mind.

We wanted a design that appealed to older customers already familiar with the family brand, and new people as well.

With the demographic focussed on the Asian market, I took cues from other favorites like Uncle Tetsu Japanese Cheesecake, which has an approachable, friendly graphic icon.

With the name “California Bakehouse”, I was inspired by the golden state and the iconic bear on the state flag.

I wanted texture in the illustration, so I kept the edges rough and erased/added strokes by hand.
